Charles Smith Kung Fu Girl Riesling comes from Charles Smith Wines, founded in 1999 in Walla Walla, Washington, by former rock band manager turned winemaker Charles Smith. The idea for Kung Fu Girl was born one night while Smith was eating Chinese takeout and watching a martial arts film, leading him to create a dry Riesling built specifically to pair with Asian food. Made from 100 percent Riesling sourced from the Evergreen Vineyard in the Ancient Lakes AVA, a sub-appellation on the western edge of the Columbia Basin, the fruit draws distinct minerality from a mix of basalt, sedimentary bedrock, Quincy loam, and windblown loess soils.
Bottled at approximately 12.5% ABV, the nose brings bright jasmine, apricot, white peach, and honeysuckle. The palate delivers white peach, mandarin orange, and apricot up front, joined by lychee and a firm mineral backbone, balanced by crisp, clean acidity that keeps the stone fruit flavors focused. The finish is long and vibrant with lingering citrus, honey, and mineral notes.
