About This Bottle

Blanton's Char No. 4 is a 2022 special release from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. It's bottled one barrel at a time from Warehouse H, the metal-clad rickhouse Blanton's has drawn from since the brand launched in 1984. The release is named for the No. 4 char on its barrels, the heaviest standard char level. It's bottled at barrel proof with no water added. As with every Blanton's, each bottle comes from a single barrel, so proof and flavor vary slightly from one bottle to the next. It was released mainly for overseas markets in a 700ml bottle with a custom label and gift box, and very few bottles reached the US.

  • Size: 700ml

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Dark caramel, vanilla bean, toasted oak
  • Palate: Brown sugar, baking spice, roasted nuts, charred oak
  • Finish: Long and warm, with spice and smoky oak

Blanton's was the first bourbon sold as a single barrel bourbon, in 1984. Each stopper carries one of eight horse-and-jockey figures showing a different stage of a race, and each figure is stamped with one letter of B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S. Char No. 4 is one of the scarcest modern Blanton's releases: reports put it at four barrels and about 832 bottles. That makes it a collector's bottle as much as a pour.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Blanton's Char No. 4 taste like?
Expect the caramel, vanilla and orange-peel sweetness Blanton's is known for, pushed deeper by barrel proof and heavy char. Brown sugar, spice and toasted oak lead, and the finish runs long.

How is Char No. 4 different from Blanton's Original?
Blanton's Original is bottled at 93 proof. Char No. 4 comes from selected Warehouse H barrels, is bottled at full barrel proof, and comes in a 700ml export bottle with its own label and gift box.

How should I drink it?
Pour it neat first, then add a few drops of water to open it up. At this proof, a little water brings out more of the fruit and vanilla.

Before You Order

Common Questions

When will this ship?

Orders placed Monday through Thursday are processed and ship within 3–5 business days. Orders placed Friday through Sunday are processed the following Monday. We ship from Coronado, CA via UPS, and tracking is emailed as soon as your order leaves.

Which states do you ship to?

We ship to most US states, but not to Tennessee, US territories, or APO/FPO addresses. Enter your ZIP code at checkout and we will confirm delivery to your address before you pay. Not sure? Email support@estatesliquor.com before ordering.

Do I have to sign for delivery?

Yes. An adult 21 or older with valid government-issued ID must be present to sign. UPS will not leave alcohol unattended.

What happens if I miss the delivery?

UPS attempts delivery up to three times. If all three attempts fail, the package is returned to us and re-shipping costs are the customer's responsibility.

How is the bottle packed?

Wrapped, braced, and boxed in molded inserts built for glass — the same packing whether it is a $35 bottle or a $2,000 one.

Can I return it?

All sales are final. Alcohol is a consumable product, so we cannot accept returns based on taste preference. If a bottle arrives broken or we ship the wrong item, contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and a photo, and we will replace or refund it at no cost.

What if my order is lost or damaged in transit?

Contact us within 48 hours at support@estatesliquor.com with your order number and photos. Adding shipping protection at checkout covers loss, damage, and theft, and lets us resolve it immediately rather than waiting on a UPS claim.

Can I cancel an order?
