About This Bottle
Grande Absente Absinthe Originale is distilled in the French Alps following an ancient pre-ban recipe by Distilleries de Provence, using wormwood and 12 other carefully selected herbs. As a genuine reintroduction of wormwood, the controversial yet essential ingredient in authentic absinthe, this expression honors the mystique of the original 19th century spirit while ensuring balance and quality through modern craftsmanship. This set includes the traditional slotted absinthe spoon required for the classic French preparation ritual.

Tasting Notes
- Nose: Anise, star anise, cardamom, and allspice, with layered licorice and mint
- Palate: Intensely herbal and licorice-driven, with a waxy, textured body and bursts of mint and spice
- Finish: Long and powerful, with lingering black licorice and wormwood
Traditionally prepared by slowly dripping ice-cold water over a sugar cube balanced on the included slotted spoon until the absinthe louches (turns cloudy), this authentic, high-proof absinthe is also an excellent addition to classic cocktails like a Sazerac or Death in the Afternoon, best diluted at a 6:1 to 10:1 water ratio given its considerable strength.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Grande Absente taste like?
Anise, star anise, and cardamom on the nose, with intensely herbal licorice and mint on the palate, finishing long with wormwood and black licorice.
How do I properly prepare absinthe with the included spoon?
Rest the slotted spoon on the glass with a sugar cube on top, then slowly drip ice-cold water over it until the absinthe turns cloudy (louches), diluting at roughly a 6:1 to 10:1 water-to-absinthe ratio.
Can I use this in cocktails?
Yes, it adds real complexity to classics like a Sazerac or Death in the Afternoon, working well as a rinse or small addition given its high proof.
