About This Bottle
Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt comes from Miyagikyo Distillery, Nikka's second distillery, built in 1969 in the mountains near Sendai by founder Masataka Taketsuru, who deliberately chose an inland location to contrast with his first distillery, the coastal Yoichi. Miyagikyo uses mostly unpeated barley with a portion of lightly peated malt, distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam for a gentler spirit, then matured across a mix of sherry casks, new American oak, and ex-bourbon oak.

Tasting Notes
- Nose: Malted barley with exotic fruitiness, floral notes, and subtle smoke
- Palate: Firm and lively, with herbaceous spice, dark fruit, and hints of licorice
- Finish: Long and soft, with fine tannins
An elegant, fruit-forward introduction to Japanese whisky with a distinctive sherry cask influence, Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt is best enjoyed neat or with a splash of water to open its floral and spice character, making it a strong pick for both newcomers to Japanese whisky and collectors of the Nikka lineup.
