About This Bottle

Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 21 Year Old is a discontinued, highly decorated Japanese blended malt named in honor of Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka and widely regarded as the father of Japanese whisky, who trained in Scotland before bringing his expertise back to Japan. First launched in 2001, this pure malt blends single malts from both of Nikka's distilleries, Yoichi's powerful, coal-fired direct distillation and Miyagikyo's soft, floral character, each component matured a full 21 years before blending. Due to depleted aged whisky stocks, Nikka officially discontinued this expression in March 2020, making remaining bottles a genuine collector's item.

  • Palate: Velvety and complex, evolving from initial sweetness to dried cherry, date, citrus, and chocolate malt

Award-winning at both the World Whisky Awards and International Spirits Challenge, this 21 year old expression balances Yoichi's smoky character with Miyagikyo's smooth sweetness, honoring Taketsuru's original vision for Japanese whisky. A landmark bottle for serious Japanese whisky collectors, especially in early bottlings featuring the collectible decanter-style design with gold chain detailing.
